Frequently Asked Questions
What is RateRight?
RateRight is a digital marketplace platform that connects independent contractors seeking construction and trade services with qualified workers who provide those services. Operating exclusively in Australia, RateRight facilitates job posting, contractor selection, and project coordination through integrated digital workflows.
RateRight positions itself as a marketplace facilitator that provides technology infrastructure for independent contractor relationships, not as an employer or labour-hire agency.
- Contractors post detailed job specifications including scope, timeline, budget, and compliance requirements.
- Workers submit applications and proposals for posted opportunities.
- Automated matching algorithms connect suitable workers with relevant opportunities.
- Standardised Independent Contractor Agreement templates with electronic signatures to track contract status.
- Contractors deposit the full job fee (plus GST if applicable) via Stripe before work begins.
- Funds are held in escrow until both parties submit ratings confirming job completion.
- Contract completion is contingent on mutual rating submission.
- Escrow funds are released to the worker upon completion, with automated payouts processed securely.
RateRight explicitly operates as a marketplace facilitator and does not:
- Employ workers or maintain employment relationships with platform users.
- Function as a labour-hire agency or employment service provider.
- Accept responsibility for taxation, superannuation, or insurance obligations of independent contractors.
- Direct, supervise, or control how work is performed by workers.
- Guarantee work quality or assume liability for work outcomes.
- Provide direct dispute resolution services beyond platform-facilitated communication.
- Access to verified and legitimate job opportunities
- Secure payments via escrow (funds deposited before work begins)
- Fast payouts after completion (Stripe + auto-release protection)
- Build reputation with a mandatory rating system
- Full independence (choose jobs, set rates, and work methods)
- Compliance support: ABN verification, WHS and trade licensing requirements
- Future gamification and recognition programs for top performers
- Easy job posting with clear scope, timeline, and budget tools
- Verified tradies with valid ABNs, licences, and insurance
- Payment protection with escrow until job completion
- Quality assurance via mandatory ratings and reputation tracking
- Digital contract templates aligned with Australian law
- Built-in communication, file sharing, and time tracking tools
- Transparent fees (7% platform + Stripe processing) with GST handling
- Contractors must deposit the full job fee (plus GST if applicable) via Stripe before work begins.
- Funds are held in escrow until both parties submit ratings confirming job completion.
- If ratings are not submitted within 14 days, RateRight may release escrow funds to the worker to avoid unfair withholding.
- Escrow release is always subject to the Dispute Resolution Process if a dispute is raised.
- Platform Fee: 7% retained by RateRight
- Stripe Processing Fee: 2.9% retained by Stripe
- Net to Worker: 90.1% of the agreed job fee
*Workers are responsible for their own taxation, superannuation, and GST obligations.
- If a worker is GST-registered, 10% GST is added to the job fee and included in the escrow deposit.
- The worker must invoice correctly and remit GST to the ATO.
- GST may also apply to RateRight's $50 flat hiring fee.
- RateRight facilitates GST calculation but does not handle user reporting.
See full details at RateRight's Payment Terms.
Refunds may be issued if:
- Job is cancelled before commencement, or
- Verified non-performance by worker.
Refunds are processed via Stripe within 5–10 business days, minus any non-refundable fees.
Once funds are released to the worker, refunds are strictly between contractors and worker.
During disputes, escrow funds remain on hold until resolved.
Most disputes are resolved directly between contractors and worker within 7 business days. If that fails, RateRight provides platform-facilitated assistance (up to 5 business days) where escrow remains on hold. If still unresolved, parties may escalate externally (tribunal, Fair Work, SafeWork, or ACL).
If no dispute is raised within 14 business days after job completion, escrow funds may be auto-released.
See full details at RateRight's Dispute Resolution Process.
- Mandatory bidirectional rating system requiring mutual feedback.
- Multi-dimensional scoring across quality, communication, reliability, and professionalism.
- Contract completion contingent on mutual rating submission.
- Performance tracking and reputation management.
